VAT & Corporate Tax Registration in the UAE
Every UAE business has to know two tax deadlines: when it must register for VAT, and when it must register for corporate tax. TheSupplier.ae prepares the documents and files both registrations with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) on EmaraTax, for mainland and free zone companies.
VAT registration: who must register
| Threshold | |
|---|---|
| Mandatory registration | Taxable supplies and imports above AED 375,000 in the past 12 months, or expected in the next 30 days |
| Voluntary registration | Taxable supplies, imports or expenses above AED 187,500 |
| Standard VAT rate | 5% |
Once registered, you charge VAT on taxable sales, issue tax invoices and file VAT returns on the schedule the FTA sets.
Corporate tax registration: who must register
The UAE charges corporate tax at 9% on taxable income above AED 375,000, and 0% up to that amount. Registration is required for every taxable company, including free zone companies, even when they qualify for the 0% rate on qualifying income or for relief.
Documents usually needed
- Trade licence
- Passport and Emirates ID copies of the owners and the authorised signatory
- Memorandum or articles of association, where applicable
- Contact details and the company’s bank details
- For VAT: turnover records showing the threshold was reached
